Certification

Become a certified Risk Type Compass practitioner.

Anyone administering the Risk Type Compass® assessment must first complete a qualification workshop delivered by Psychological Consultancy Ltd, the instrument’s creator and publisher. We’re an official distributor — tell us what you’re trying to do, and we’ll connect you with the right person at PCL to get you certified.

Who Certification Is For

Practitioners who want to use the tool directly with clients.

Certification is required to administer the assessment yourself, interpret reports, and deliver feedback to participants. It’s designed for consulting psychologists, executive coaches, organizational consultants, HR and talent leaders, and others who plan to integrate the Risk Type Compass® into their own practice.

If you don’t need to administer the tool yourself — for instance, you want to use it once for a specific team or coaching engagement — you don’t need certification. We can deliver the assessment for you as part of any of our engagement tiers.

What You'll Be Qualified to Do
  • Interpret individual reportsUnderstand how Risk Types translate into real workplace behavior, decision-making patterns, and stress responses.
  • Deliver participant feedback sessionsWalk individuals through their personal report and the implications for their work and leadership.
  • Run team and organizational sessionsUse the tool to support leadership development, team dynamics, hiring calibration, and organizational design.
  • Apply across industries and seniority levelsRecognize how Risk Types vary across professions, roles, and contexts.
What the Workshop Covers

The course itself moves through the model’s rationale, history, and validation; the unique ‘circumplex’ structure underlying the eight types; case studies and interactive exercises; and supervised practice feedback sessions.

A short online exam after the workshop confirms your qualification, and you become an accredited user authorized to administer the assessment with your own clients.

  • Pre-workshopComplete the RTC® psychometric and review your own personal report.
  • The modelRationale, history, validation, and how RTC® compares to other psychometrics.
  • The circumplexThe two underlying scales (Emotional–Calm, Daring–Measured) and the eight Risk Types they produce.

Common Questions

A few things people ask.

Do I need to be a psychologist to get certified?

No. The certification is open to consulting psychologists, coaches, HR and talent professionals, organizational consultants, and other practitioners who plan to use the tool with clients. The workshop covers everything you need to interpret reports and deliver feedback responsibly.

Can I just book directly with PCL?

You can. We’re an official distributor and don’t gate access to the training. The reason to come through us is that we’ll help you think about how the tool will land in your specific practice context, share what we’ve learned applying it with senior leaders and investment teams, and stay available for questions after you’re certified. The certification course itself is delivered by PCL either way.

Will you be running certification workshops yourselves?

Eventually, yes. For now, we focus on applied practice — deploying the Risk Type Compass® in real engagements with senior leaders, teams, and PE-backed organizations — and we refer practitioners who want to get certified directly to PCL.

How long does certification take?

The live virtual workshop runs as a single full-day session. The on-demand recording can be completed in roughly the same time, but at your own pace. After completion, you take a short online exam to confirm qualification. Most practitioners are accredited and ready to administer the tool within one to two weeks of starting. What does it cost in US dollars?

What does it cost in US dollars?

Pricing is set by PCL in pounds. At current exchange rates, £685 is roughly $870; £850 (advanced workshop) is roughly $1,080. Final pricing and payment are handled by PCL directly when you book.

I just want to use the tool once for a specific project. Do I really need certification?

No — if you only need the assessment for a specific engagement, we can administer it for you as part of any of our service tiers. Certification is for practitioners who want to use the tool ongoing in their own practice.
